New part-time clerk needed

Applications are invited for the position of Clerk, who will also be appointed the Responsible Financial Officer (RFO), to Kimblesworth and Plawsworth Parish Council. The role will include working from home.


The successful candidate will be employed by the Parish Council to provide administrative support for the Council’s activities, including accounting, policy and procedures where appropriate and provide objective, impartial and accurate advice. Confidentiality and adherence to GDPR is essential. The role is to ensure that the council conducts its business properly and to provide independent objective and professional advice and support.


You will also have a flexible, motivated attitude and be confident with minute taking. Some knowledge of local government is essential.


The successful applicant would be expected to have or be prepared to obtain within two years of appointment, CiLCA (Certificate in Local Council Administration).  They must be computer literate, with good communication skills. Friendly and positive outlooks are essential. 


Common sense and an ability to acquire knowledge is important. You must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, sound organisational skills, good literacy and be able to work on your own initiative. The existing Clerk will ensure a smooth handover of duties between May and July, if required by the successful candidate, and if agreed by the council. Closing date for applications is Friday 25 April 2025 at 5pm.

Interviews will be the evening of Tuesday 29 / Wednesday 30 April 2025. Council: Kimblesworth and Plawsworth Parish Council

County: County Durham

Hours: Four hours per week initially but may rise to six if mutually agreed between the council and the successful candidate. The hours will include a minimum of one evening per month, usually the second Thursday of every month (excluding August).

Salary: Remuneration to be between SCP5 (£12.85/hour) and SCP 12 (£14.36/hour) at 2024/25 rates, depending on qualifications and previous clerk experience. This pay scale is commensurate with the size of the parish area and the duties expected of the role. Specific Responsibilities of the role can be found here:
